Chinese Garter

A flexibility and jumping game where kids leap over a stretchy garter that gets higher each round.

Players
• At least 3 players — two to hold the garter and one to jump.
• You can also form two or more teams with at least 2 players per team.

Garter or Rope
• A 2–3 yard-long garter (elastic band) made of rubber or cloth.
• You can also make one by tying rubber bands together until it’s long enough.
• Avoid garters that are too thin or brittle so they won’t break easily.

Play Area
• A flat, open space — such as a playground, yard, or gym floor.
• Around 10 meters of space is ideal for safe jumping and movement.

Optional Items
• A marker or chalk line to show where players will jump from.
• Comfortable shoes or barefoot play for better grip.

1. Divide Into Teams
• Split players into two or more teams with equal numbers.
• If only three players are available, two will hold the garter while one jumps.

2. Position the Holders (“Posts”)
• The two holders stand facing each other, about 2–3 yards apart.
• Stretch the garter around their ankles to form a straight line at ground level.

3. Mark the Jumping and Landing Areas
• Draw or imagine a jumping line and a landing area a few feet away from the garter.
• Players will jump from one side to the other over the garter.

4. Set the First Level
• Begin with the garter placed low — at ankle height.
• Each successful round will make the garter higher (knees, waist, chest, ears, head).

1. Start the Round
• The first player begins by jumping over the garter without touching it.
• Players take turns jumping from the jumping line to the landing side.

2. Clear the Levels
• After everyone clears the first height, raise the garter higher for the next round:
1️⃣ Ankle Level
2️⃣ Knee Level
3️⃣ Waist Level
4️⃣ Chest Level
5️⃣ Ear Level
6️⃣ Over-the-Head Level

3. Avoid Touching the Garter
• If a player’s foot touches or trips on the garter, they’re out for that round.
• Their teammate can try to make up for the missed jump.

4. Team Rotation
• When all members of a team fail a level, they become the new holders (posts).
• The next team takes their turn to jump.

5. High-Level Tricks
• For harder rounds, players can cartwheel or flip to clear the garter.
• Creativity and skill make the game more fun!

6. Winning the Game
• The team or player who reaches the highest level without touching the garter wins!

  • Ang taas na! (ahng tah-AHS nah) — “It’s so high now!”
