Kadang-Kadang (Coconut Stilt Race)
A traditional Filipino race where players balance on coconut-shell stilts and use attached strings to walk toward the finish line without falling off.
- 2 coconut shell halves for each player
- 2 sturdy strings or ropes
- Open, flat playing area
- Starting line
- Finish line
- 2 or more players
- Make a hole in the center of each coconut shell half.
- Thread a sturdy string through each hole and secure it with a knot underneath.
- Make the strings long enough for players to hold comfortably while standing on the shells.
- Mark a starting line and finish line several yards apart.
- Have each player stand on a pair of coconut shells behind the starting line.
- Place one foot on each coconut shell and hold the strings firmly with both hands.
- Pull upward on the strings to keep the shells against your feet.
- When someone calls “Go!”, begin walking toward the finish line.
- Move one foot and coconut shell at a time while keeping your balance.
- If you step or fall off, get back onto the shells and continue from where you stopped.
- The first player to cross the finish line while standing on the coconut shells wins!
