A huge, hairy giant who sits high up in big trees, often seen with glowing eyes and sometimes smoking a giant cigar.

In tall trees like acacia, balete, or mango trees.

  • Kapres aren’t always scary. Sometimes they just like to watch people or play harmless tricks like making people lost or disoriented in the woods.
  • When a kapre causes someone to get lost or confused in the woods, one way to break free from its control is to take off your shirt, turn it inside out, and put it back on. This act is thought to disrupt the spirit’s enchantment and help you “see the path again.”
  • Reminds people to respect nature and the big trees in the forest, because kapres are often seen as guardians or protectors of nature, especially big, old trees like balete, acacia, or mango trees.
