Bayang magiliw,
Perlas ng silanganan,
Alab ng puso
Sa dibdib mo’y buhay.

Lupang hinirang,
Duyan ka ng magiting,
Sa manlulupig

Sa dagat at bundok,
Sa simoy at sa langit mong bughaw,
May dilag ang tula
At awit sa paglayang minamahal.

Ang kislap ng watawat mo’y
Tagumpay na nagniningning;
Ang bituin at araw niya,
Kailan pa ma’y di magdidilim.

Lupa ng araw, ng luwalhati’t pagsinta,
Buhay ay langit sa piling mo;
Aming ligaya na ‘pag may mang-aapi,
Ang mamatay nang dahil sa ‘yo.

English Translation

Lupang Hinirang (Chosen Land)

Affectionate country,
Pearl of the Orient,
The blaze of your heart
is alive in your chest!

Chosen Land,
cradle of the brave,
to oppressors,
you will not be suppressed.

In the sea and mountain,
in the breeze, and IN YOUR BLUE HEAVEN,
There is a muse to your poem
and song in your coveted freedom.

The sparkle of your flag
is victory shining;
its star and sun,
will forever not dim to darkness.

Land of the sun, of joy, and love,
Life is like Heaven, at your side;
Our joy, whenever there are oppressors,
is to die because of you

Lupang Hinirang means “Chosen Land.” The song celebrates the beauty of the Philippines and the courage of its people. It talks about shining seas, golden sun, and brave heroes who fought for freedom.

The anthem reminds Filipinos to love their country deeply and to be willing to stand up for it with honor and pride.

Lupang means “land.”
Hinirang means “chosen” or “selected.”

Lupang Hinirang  (loo-pahng hee-nee-rahng)

The music was first composed in 1898 by Julian Felipe, and the original lyrics were written as a Spanish poem before being translated into Filipino.
