Nilaga (Boiled Pork Soup)

A simple and comforting Filipino boiled soup made with pork, potatoes, corn, and leafy greens, simmered until tender in a light, savory broth. It’s perfect for rainy days and best enjoyed with rice.  

Nilaga (nee-LAH-gah) – Means “boiled” in Filipino, referring to its cooking method.  

Recipe for 4 People

  • 500g pork 
  • 1 corn on the cob 
  • 2 potatoes 
  • Saba bananas 
  • Pechay (bok choy) 
  • Onion, garlic, fish sauce, pepper  

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour

  1. Sauté onion and garlic, add pork until browned.  

  2. Add fish sauce, water, bring to boil.  

  3. Add corn and potatoes, cook until tender. 

  4. Add saba bananas, pechay, simmer until just cooked. 

  5. Serve hot with rice.
